UKCAT Tip 48: Shorthand shortcuts in Decision Analysis

Every improvement in efficiency provides a valuable speed boost during the subtest. The two-sided laminated A4 sheet given to you is one such tool to improve your speed.

Many will use the laminated sheet carefully to write out the code from English, or the literal English translation from code. You will have the time to do this, but after a while rewriting the word ‘opposite’ or ‘negative’ will be tedious and time-consuming.

You can save time by using shortcut symbols to denote operator codes such as ‘opposite’ and ‘negative’. Other notations may be used for ‘female’ and ‘male’. Use these shorthands in your practice sessions so you can remember them. Time saved in process can be spent answering more questions!
